Unit 12

Final thoughts

A project manager’s main goal is managing stakeholders through the whole project, from the initial requirement specifications of the project to its completion with all stakeholders satisfied. To achieve the ultimate objective, it is inevitable that stakeholders have to give project manager time, resources, and effort – and they want to see a great return on that investment.

A Project manager’s biggest challenge will be ensuring stakeholders are happy while keeping their project on schedule. Project manager must be able to provide solutions in the form of products, services, and communication. He/She is the person responsible for overseeing the various tasks that need to be completed to successfully deliver a product or service. The project manager will typically be in charge of ensuring that all the work and resources required for the project are available, that deadlines are met, and that quality standards are maintained. The following skills are required for a successful software engineering project management:

  • Project planning
  • Project estimation
  • Project execution
  • Risk management
  • Quality assurance
Software Engineering Project Manager is a very important role in the engineering team. It's not just about managing the project, but also about managing the people and the process. The project manager is responsible for the project’s success. They are in charge of managing the team, and they have to keep an eye on the budget and time.

The Triple Constraint Theory is often considered to be a model for project management. It explains the relationship between constraints in project management and their effect on the outcome of a project. The concept of the theory comes from the idea that three constraints need to be addressed to maximise success and profitability. These three constraints are time, cost, and quality. The number of each constraint or their weight added together can be referred to as a "triple constraint," hence the name of this theory. (Van Wyngaard, Pretorius and Pretorius, 2012)

Would that be possible in a far future from now, an AI will take over the role of a Project Manager?
